marialynamportraitEvery work of art is an adventure. Sketchbooks are filled, photographs are taken and ideas start to come alive. Starting with another rough sketch of the proposed piece, I work through which process, or processes, will enhance my vision. It starts as a puzzle and as I work with my chosen media, the work takes on a voice of its own. The complications that are presented at the beginning of a work are resolved... many times through trial and error, but there is great satisfaction in the final product.

Gold leaf and other organic materials are often incorporated in a work of art. Whatever the media, I “meld” various images to make them integral. Many of my works are abstract compositions based on organic elements in which the colors and forms establish harmonious and balanced relationships; others include graffiti.

Experimenting with digital transfers onto various surfaces—metal, glass, etc. is my current challenge. I use my own photographs and art as the basis for the creation of these combined media pieces.
